Design preset

Form follows function.

Three primaries, two radii and a black rule around everything. The page is not laid out so much as constructed — from circles, squares and triangles, stacked with hard shadows that never blur.

What the preset decides

A kit of parts

Three primaries

Red, blue and yellow against black and off-white. There is no fourth colour and no tint of a third — a section commits to one block and the next one changes it.

Two radii

Square or circle, nothing between. The absence of a gentle 8px corner is what keeps the page architectural rather than merely colourful.

Hard shadows

Solid offsets at 4, 6 and 8 pixels, never blurred. A blur implies diffuse light; this style has a single hard source and treats depth as stacking.

How a page gets built

Constructed, in four moves

1

Block the sections

Decide which band is red, blue, yellow or paper before a single word is placed.

2

Rule the divisions

Four-pixel black borders between every band, so the blocks read as one structure.

3

Set the type

One geometric face. Headlines black-weight, uppercase, tight; body at medium for reading.

4

Compose the shapes

Circles, squares and triangles placed as composition — not stock illustration.

Why build it this way

The limits are the design

  • Nothing to tune. Three colours and two radii leave almost no room for a thousand small arbitrary decisions.
  • Legible at any size. Hard borders and flat colour survive a phone screen, a projector and a bad monitor alike.
  • Cheap to render. No gradients, no blurs, no shadow passes — flat fills and solid offsets.
  • Hard to make bland. A section must commit to a colour, so the page cannot drift into grey-on-grey.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is this a mock-up or the real thing?
A specimen. It is hand-built to the preset's specification so the style can be seen whole rather than as a thumbnail. The preset itself is a set of WordPress Theme Settings; a generated site inherits the palette, the type, the zero radius and the section blocking. The composed geometry on this page — the hero panel, the corner marks, the rotated step numbers — is still being folded into the preset and is not all emitted automatically yet.
Is it accessible, with colour this strong?
Yes, with one rule that is easy to get wrong: white clears AA on the red and the blue, but on the yellow it measures about 1.7:1 and fails outright. Yellow blocks therefore always carry black text. Focus rings are hard offsets, switching to white on the coloured blocks.
Can I change the colours afterwards?
Yes — they are palette roles in Theme Settings, so moving one moves everything that references it. The structure survives a palette change; it is the borders, the radii and the shadow offsets that carry the style, not the particular red.
