Design preset

If it has no border it does not exist

Four-pixel black lines around everything, shadows that are solid blocks of ink rather than blur, and elements that behave like physical objects. Ugly by polished standards, deliberate by intention.

What the preset decides

Three rules

01

Black on colour

White on the red measures 2.78 to one and fails. On the yellow it is 1.38. These are highlighter colours, and highlighters are written on in black — white appears only on the black sections.

02

Ink, not blur

Shadows are solid rectangles offset down and right. A single soft shadow anywhere reverts the whole page to ordinary card design.

03

Physical objects

Buttons move into the space their own shadow occupied. Cards lift and their shadow grows. Badges rotate further when you reach for them.

The physics

Press the button. It goes down.

On click it translates four pixels down and right and drops its shadow entirely, so it ends up exactly where the shadow was. That is the whole trick — and it is why the shadow has to be a hard offset rather than a blur, because a blur has no edge for the element to land on.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is this a mock-up or the real thing?
A specimen, hand-built to the preset's specification so the style can be seen whole rather than as a thumbnail. The preset itself is a set of WordPress Theme Settings; a generated site inherits the palette, the heavy type and the sharp corners. The hard shadows, the sticker rotations and the press physics are still being folded into the preset and are not all emitted automatically yet.
Why is there no white text on the red button?
Because it measures 2.78 to one. On the yellow, white is 1.38 — effectively unreadable. Black on those same fills is 7.6 and 15.3. The style's own rule says it is black or a colour and never a grey, and this is the same instinct applied to the text.
Does the texture matter?
Yes. A flat cream background under all this structure looks unfinished rather than minimal — the halftone dots give the page something to be printed on. The density is the point of the style, not a side effect of it.
